For Youngstown State University students in communication and sports marketing courses, learning from someone who lives the industry every day is part of the experience.

Chad Krispinsky, part-time faculty member in YSU’s School of Strategic Communication and Media and longtime WKBN sports anchor, was recently inducted into the Trumbull County Sports Hall of Fame – an honor that reflects the expertise and professionalism he brings to his students.

Krispinsky, who has taught at YSU since 2005, drawing on more than two decades in broadcasting to help students connect classroom learning to the realities of the industry. His ongoing work in the field allows him to show students how skills developed in class translate directly into the fast-paced world of sports media.

“I bring real-world experiences to the classroom – I’m living what I teach,” said Krispinsky. “When students see me on TV or hear how things work behind the scenes, it shows them that what we’re learning isn’t just a theory.”

Because he remains active in broadcasting, Krispinsky offers students a firsthand understanding of how the sports and communication industries continue to evolve. From technology and production to audience engagement, he helps prepare students to adapt to constant change and meet industry expectations with confidence.

His recent Hall of Fame induction, he said, is both humbling and motivating – a reminder of the importance of sharing his experiences with the next generation of professionals.

“To be recognized alongside so many great names is truly an honor,” he said. “But what I enjoy most is passing that experience on to my students. That’s what keeps me motivated.”
