The Guin Fit initiative at Youngstown State University has been formally recognized by the City of Youngstown for its work advancing health equity throughout the community.
Guin Fit promotes nutrition, physical activity and family wellness through programs and outreach efforts designed to support residents across the Mahoning Valley. The recognition highlights the collaborative impact of the initiative and the partnerships that continue to strengthen its community presence.
The program focuses on improving access to wellness resources while encouraging healthy lifestyle habits for individuals and families throughout the region.
This recognition reflects the continued commitment of Guin Fit and its community partners to creating healthier communities through education, engagement and outreach.
The James and Coralie Centofanti Charitable Foundation has pledged an additional $500,000 to continue its support of the Centofanti Symposium at Youngstown State University.
Over the last ten years, the symposium has brought nationally and internationally recognized speakers to Youngstown to discuss issues affecting society, including poverty, preventive medicine, public health, mental health and human rights.
“Because of the Centofanti Foundation’s continued generosity, Youngstown State University has built the Centofanti Symposium into one of the region’s premier forums for presenting serious ideas and conducting meaningful dialogue,” said YSU President Bill Johnson.
With this latest gift, the foundation’s total generosity to YSU and the YSU Foundation now exceeds $3.2 million and extends support for the symposium for an additional ten years.
The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University hosted its first Applied Learning & Employer Networking Luncheon on April 24, bringing together more than 100 students, faculty, staff and regional business professionals.
Held in Williamson Hall, the event highlighted the role of applied and engaged learning in preparing students for professional success while creating opportunities for meaningful interaction between students and employer partners.
Students represented a range of applied learning experiences, including internships, business competitions and community-engaged projects designed to build practical skills and professional confidence.
“Applied and engaged learning is central to how we prepare students for professional success,” said Christina Saenger, dean of the Williamson College of Business Administration.
The luncheon reflects WCBA’s continued commitment to connecting academic experiences with career pathways while strengthening relationships with employers throughout the region.
