No matter where you live there is a good chance that you will run into alumni of Youngstown State University. Our alumni chapters are represented across 14 states.
Youngstown State University has received the 2025 Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, recognizing the university’s Respiratory Care program for excellence in student achievement and credentialing success.
YSU boasts a 98% pass rate on the national registry. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication, credibility and integrity of our faculty,” said Kelly L. Colwell, associate professor of health professions and program director of respiratory care.
The award will be formally recognized during the CoARC ceremony in July in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Youngstown State University’s student newspaper, The Jambar, and journalists from the Department of Strategic Communication & Media collected multiple awards at the Ohio News Media Association Fellowship Day in Columbus on March 26.
Competing in Category A, YSU students took home awards in five of 10 competitive categories, including sports coverage, arts and entertainment, design, headline writing, and photojournalism.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work, professional standards, and dedication of our student staff,” said Adam Earnheardt, student media advisor. This year’s wins for The Jambar highlight the program’s continued strength in both traditional reporting and visual communication.
Students from the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University are helping local high school students build confidence and career readiness through hands-on mock interview experiences.
Student officers from the Society for Human Resource Management chapter at WCBA partnered with Crestview High School to conduct mock interviews for 40 students enrolled in a personal finance and career exploration course. Each student participated in a 10-minute interview and received individualized feedback and a formal evaluation.
“This was an opportunity my students will reap the benefits of for years to come,” said Donna Burnell, a Crestview High School instructor.
Due to the success of the event, additional partnerships are already underway, with a similar mock interview program planned at another local school next month.
