Youngstown State University alumni chapters across the nation actively participated in National Volunteer Week, held from April 20th to 27th, 2024. Dedicated to giving back to their communities, YSU alumni and friends from various regions rolled up their sleeves and showcased their Penguin pride through various service projects that made a positive impact.
In Cleveland, the local YSU alumni chapter partnered with the Cleveland Food Bank. Alumni volunteers spent a productive evening sorting through food donations, ensuring a steady supply for those in need. Similarly, the Columbus chapter dedicated their time to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (MOFC), located in Grove City, Ohio. The MOFC is another vital organization addressing food insecurity.
Down south, the Orlando YSU alumni chapter lent a helping hand at the Sharing Center, a local organization dedicated to providing food, clothing, and other essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or poverty. Their efforts played a crucial role in supporting vulnerable members of the Orlando community.
Westward in Las Vegas, the YSU alumni chapter took a different approach. Recognizing the dedication of a fellow YSU graduate who manages a local Las Vegas charity, the chapter members rallied to collect donations of essential items and canned food at their chapter dinner at Claim Jumper. Their generosity will provide much-needed resources to the charity’s clients.
Finally, closer to home, Youngstown’s local Pete’s Pride members focused their efforts on serving dinner at the Rescue Mission in Youngstown. This act of kindness brought a warm meal and a sense of community for those facing challenging circumstances in the Mahoning Valley.
Through their diverse volunteer activities, YSU alumni across the country embodied the spirit of National Volunteer Week. Their dedication to serving their communities not only benefitted those in need, but demonstrated the University’s commitment to service nationwide
