Youngstown Fire Station hosts YSU Fire Science faculty to promote program
faculty and staff from Youngstown State University’s Fire Science program held info-sessions at Youngstown Fire Station 1 to promote the new FESHE approved program.
Over three days, Chris Weaver, president of Youngstown Professional Firefighters – IAFF Local 312 and Fire Science program advisory board member; Carl DeCarlo, program director; Tyler Zero, academic advisor; Kim Verdone, YSU degree audit manager and advisory board member; and John Hazy, chair of the department, shared information about the program, promoting its benefits, flexibility, enrollment process and more.
DeCarlo said he was happy for the unique opportunity and experience. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect directly with the fire professionals who serve our community. This program was designed with their needs in mind, and these conversations are key to making sure they know it’s a flexible, accessible path to advance their careers.”
Weaver said he appreciated the YSU staff’s efforts to share information about the program. He also thanked Youngstown Fire Station Chief Barry Finley for allowing the visits.
“We are very appreciative of DeCarlo and the YSU staff in offering this great new Fire Science Program to our membership.” Weaver said. “This is giving our members an opportunity to broaden their education in the firefighting profession. We are excited to see this new Fire Science Program take off.”
