YSU hosts 10th annual ROTC Alumni Picnic, announces upcoming Veterans and Alumni Weekend
Youngstown State University hosted the 10th annual YSU Army ROTC Alumni Picnic on Saturday, July 26, at the Pollock House Pavilion. The annual event brings together YSU ROTC alumni from across the country to reconnect with former classmates and fellow service members. This year’s picnic drew attendees from as far as Georgia.
Held each year on the last Saturday in July, the picnic has become a staple of YSU’s efforts to maintain strong ties with its ROTC community.
YSU veterans, ROTC alumni and friends are also invited to attend the YSU Veterans and ROTC Alumni Weekend, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26, through Sunday, Sept. 28, at Squaw Creek Country Club.
The weekend begins Friday evening with the annual alumni dinner, which will include the presentation of the Cincinnatus Award, updates from YSU’s Veterans Office and ROTC Department and a keynote address by Ralph “Mac” Crum, a 1991 YSU graduate. Crum is a retired Army colonel, ROTC alumnus and Afghanistan war veteran.
On Sunday, attendees can participate in the 8th annual ROTC Golf Outing. The outing includes a continental breakfast, Mission BBQ lunch at the turn and an awards luncheon following the 18-hole event at the Squaw Creek Country Club course.
Last year’s Alumni Weekend raised nearly $15,000 in support of student veterans and ROTC cadets, helping to fund essential equipment, staff rides and program merchandise.
