YSU offers fall prevention and Parkinson’s disease exercise classes
The Bitonte College of Health and Human Services at Youngstown State University is offering two wellness classes this fall: a fall prevention exercise class and a Parkinson’s disease exercise class. Both programs are held twice weekly throughout the semester at YSU’s Beeghly Center.
Both classes are free and open to the public.
The fall prevention exercise class meets Mondays and Wednesdays through December 6, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The class, led by Shannon Dudash, assistant professor of graduate studies in health and rehabilitation sciences, focuses on strengthening and balance exercises, along with education on fall recovery techniques to reduce the risk of falls. To register, contact Dudash at 330-941-2407 or sstarr@ysu.edu and provide your name, phone number, caregiver’s name if applicable and whether you use an assistive device.
The Parkinson’s disease exercise class meets Mondays and Wednesdays through December 6, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The class is led by Annie Tapp, assistant professor of graduate studies in health and rehabilitation sciences. Tapp is certified in PWR!Moves, which incorporate Parkinson’s-specific functional exercises aimed at slowing, halting or reversing loss of mobility. These exercises target four key movement skills: tall posture, weight shifting, trunk mobility (axial rotation) and stepping/transitioning. To register, contact Tapp at 330-941-1897 or aqtapp@ysu.edu and provide your name, phone number, caregiver’s name if applicable and whether you use an assistive device.
Both classes are held in Room 119 of Beeghly Center. Parking is available in the M81 lot.
