YSU’s fraternity and sorority members inducted into the Order of Omega

A new class of Greek students was inducted into the Omicron Nu chapter of the Order of Omega, a honorary society that celebrates the academic excellence of those part of YSU’s fraternities and sororities.

The induction was held Saturday, April 12, at the Greek Sing event. In order to qualify for membership, students must be of junior or senior status with a combined cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.

The Order of Omega is the Greek National Honorary Society, founded at the University of Miami in the fall of 1959 by a group of outstanding fraternity men who felt that individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their service to both the fraternity system and the university.

The purpose of Omega is to recognize the students who have attained a high standard of leadership in Interfraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line and to inspire others to strive for similar achievement; to bring together outstanding students and to create an organization that helps mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate Greek affairs; to bring together members of the faculty, alumni and student members of the institution’s fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness; and to help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions.
