Alumni and friends make an impact through meaningful volunteer opportunities. Whether assisting with event logistics, helping recruit new students, or joining fellow Penguins in community service, YSU graduates join together to give back!
Event Logistics
Pete’s Pride members assist with event logistics and provide a warm welcome to attendees. Volunteers may assist with guest direction at commencement, seating at YSU lectures, and offering a warm welcome during campus visit days. These event volunteers share their hospitality and enthusiastic Penguin spirit as valued ambassadors with the community.
Pete’s Pride postcard writers share positive YSU experiences with newly admitted students, encouraging them to choose YSU. This initiative gives alumni a convenient way to contribute to enrollment efforts, no matter where they live.
The 2026-2027 postcard writing campaign will begin in the fall. Sign up here to receive more information.
Alumni Ambassadors
YSU alumni educators in middle and high schools serve as alumni ambassadors. These volunteers display their Penguin Pride in the classroom and discuss positive YSU experiences to aid enrollment. Email alumni@ysu.edu for information about registering for the 2026-27 academic year.
Alumni Chapters
Alumni and friends across the country connect through service by giving back to their local communities. Many chapters participate in National Volunteer week each April. Some volunteer with or collect items for non-profits at other times, as well. Visit the Alumni Chapters page for more information.
Community Service
Penguin Pulse offers a vast array of service opportunities for students, alumni and community members in the Mahoning Valley. A volunteer group of alumni and friends participates in Streetscape, a downtown Youngstown beautification effort, each year on the first Saturday after Memorial Day.
Join Pete’s Pride to receive email notifications of upcoming events.
Alumni Leadership
As appointed by the Office of Alumni Engagement, alumni serve in leadership roles to create opportunities for engagement through chapters around the country. Committees plan reunions and administer the Alumni Legacy Scholarship.
