Youngstown State University welcomed community members, prospective students and local leaders to its Steubenville location on Saturday for a Community Open House showcasing a new era of academic programs, workforce-aligned training opportunities and expanded access to higher education in eastern Ohio.

The event gave attendees the opportunity to explore degree and certificate programs, connect with faculty and staff, receive one-on-one financial aid guidance, and ultimately, apply for admission on site. Students who applied during the event had their application fee waived.

During the event, YSU President Bill Johnson and university leadership addressed prospective students, parents, media, potential partners and guests, emphasizing the institution’s growing role in expanding educational access and supporting regional workforce needs.

“This new YSU campus represents more than just a physical presence. It reflects our commitment to expanding education choices and access, strengthening the workforce and supporting the communities we serve,” Johnson said. “Youngstown State University is creating new opportunities for students while helping build a stronger future for this region.”

The day’s activities also featured a $28,000 check presentation from the Eastern Ohio Community College Foundation, reinforcing the importance of philanthropic and community partnerships in supporting student success.

“We are pleased to continue our legacy of supporting local high school students as they follow their career paths in all forms of education, including health care, engineering, skilled trades and other certifications,” said Scott Campbell, chairman of the Foundation Board. “Working with local schools, we will strive to provide annual financial assistance to help individual students attain their life goals. To our donors and our community, we are committed to our mission to help students be the best that they can be. We are grateful to YSU for their commitment to our community.”

YSU Provost Jennifer Adams highlighted the university’s academic mission and its alignment with regional workforce priorities.

“At YSU Steubenville, our academic programs are designed to meet the needs of students and employers in this region,” Adams said. “We are focused on workforce-ready education that leads directly to in-demand careers in health care, skilled trades and other high-growth fields. This is a community-centered model that reflects our commitment to access, opportunity and measurable regional impact.”

Throughout the open house, attendees toured the facility, met faculty and staff, and learned more about programs planned for launch in Fall 2026. The event also provided hands-on assistance with applications, including financial aid counseling and enrollment support.
